Who Admissions Ambassadors Are

Admissions Ambassadors are the first, and often the only, contact prospective students and their families have with Montclair State University. That interaction shapes their impression of the University. Ambassadors are the face of Montclair State.

Ambassadors are a select group of students in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions whose goal is to give every guest the best possible experience while visiting campus. They play a major part in the University's effort to recruit a diverse student body that benefits from Montclair's comprehensive undergraduate curricula and rich campus life community.

What Ambassadors Do

Ambassadors support prospective students and their families throughout the college search process. They lead daily campus tours and help staff Open Houses, Accepted Student Days, webinars, virtual tours, and a range of other on- and off-campus programs. They answer questions and help families register for tours and events over the phone through the tour hotline, assist prospective students with the application process, and support the Admissions staff by processing incoming and outgoing mail and entering prospective student information into the system.

Ambassador Roles

Ambassador in Training (First Semester)

Requirements:

  • Minimum GPA of 2.75
  • 6 hours a week for training/office work/tours during designated time slots
  • Attend and work Open Houses/Accepted Student Days
  • Attend and work 3 additional events (either on or off campus)
  • Attend and work 3 Saturday tours
  • Attend the regularly scheduled mandatory meetings each month (if any)
  • Complete all surveys by the deadline
  • Students who are:
    • articulate, outgoing, and enthusiastic
    • resourceful and proactive
    • willing to learn more about the university and its programs
    • reliable and responsible

This is a voluntary position until you become fully certified, unless you qualify for Federal Work Study.

Certified Ambassador

Requirements:

  • Minimum GPA of 2.75
  • Must have successfully completed the certification process for tours and office during your first semester of training
  • Must be able to train new Ambassadors in training
  • Weekly time commitment options (for office work, training others, and tours)
    • 5 – 6 Hours per week
      • 2- 3-Hour office shift
      • 3 Hour Tour Shift
  • Responsible for the training of first-semester Ambassadors in training
  • Attend and work all Open Houses/Accepted Student Days
  • Attend and work 3 additional events (either on or off campus)
  • Attend and work 3 Saturday tours
  • Attend the regularly scheduled mandatory meetings each month(if any)
  • Complete all surveys by the deadline
  • Students who are:
    • articulate, outgoing, and enthusiastic
    • resourceful and proactive
    • willing to learn more about the university and its programs
    • reliable and responsible
    • willing to train and evaluate others
  • Ambassador in Training (First Semester) – Voluntary until you become fully certified, unless you qualify for Federal Work Study.
  • Second and Future Semester Ambassador – Pay varies based on the number of hours worked per week. Ambassadors are paid through one stipend in the middle of the semester and one at the end of the semester.

Executive Ambassador

Requirements:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Must have successfully completed 2 semesters as an Admissions Ambassador
  • Must display superior leadership, organizational, writing, and public speaking skills
  • Must have a superior understanding of the workings of the Admissions Office
  • Minimum of 12 hours a week for office work, training others, tours, and meetings.
  • Attend and work all Open Houses
  • Run 4 Saturday tours
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned
  • Complete all surveys by the deadline
  • Students who are:
    • articulate, outgoing, and enthusiastic
    • resourceful and proactive
    • reliable and responsible
    • willing to learn more about the university and its programs
    • willing to train, evaluate, and delegate tasks to others
    • willing to be an advocate/liaison for fellow Ambassadors in communications with superiors, other Ambassadors, Admissions staff, university staff, university guests, and other associates of the university.
