About the Constitution
The Montclair Student Government Association (SGA) Constitution serves as the governing framework for undergraduate student government at Montclair State University. It establishes the mission, structure and authority of the SGA while outlining how it represents and advocates for the undergraduate student body.
The Constitution defines the responsibilities of the legislative, executive and judicial branches, establishes procedures for elections, appointments and voting, and explains how decisions are made on behalf of students. It also details the SGA's role in recognizing and funding student organizations, overseeing the allocation of student activity fees, promoting student leadership and engagement, and ensuring accountability within student government. Additionally, the Constitution provides the processes for amending governing policies, holding referendums and recalling elected officials, helping ensure that the SGA operates transparently and democratically in support of the University's undergraduate community.

The Montclair Student Government Association (SGA) Statutes provide the detailed policies and procedures that guide the day-to-day operations of student government at Montclair State University. While the Constitution establishes the SGA's governing framework, the Statutes explain how that framework is put into practice. They outline the responsibilities and procedures of the legislative, executive and judicial branches, establish election processes, define committee structures, set financial policies for the allocation and use of student activity fees, and detail the requirements for recognizing and supporting registered student organizations.
