Who We Are

University Communications & Marketing (UCM) leverages sophisticated paid, earned, social and owned media strategies to engage prospective students and build awareness of Montclair's distinctive value across New Jersey, nationally and globally. We partner with campus leadership, the media and our community to strengthen Montclair’s visibility and reputation, while keeping the University community well-informed.

What We Do

UCM supports projects that advance the University’s priorities, strengthen the Montclair brand, create a sense of pride and belonging among our community, and improve the digital experience for people who interact with our communications, websites and digital profiles.

Our Work Includes:

  • Promoting Montclair’s academic excellence, student success, research, partnerships and public impact.
  • Developing University-level news, feature stories, media relations strategy and executive communications.
  • Supporting internal communications that keep faculty, staff and campus audiences informed.
  • Providing brand guidance, editorial standards, visual assets, templates and self-service tools.
  • Advising on marketing strategy, audience insights, campaign planning and message development.
  • Creating and supporting print, digital, photo, video and social media content.
  • Guiding website strategy, accessibility, SEO and GEO best practices implementation, CMS training, content standards and digital analytics.
  • Helping campus partners understand the best path for their communications needs, whether through full partnership, guided support or self-service resources.

Strategic Communications

Strategic Communications supports University-level storytelling, news, media relations, executive communications, crisis and issue communications, faculty expert promotion and strategic consultation.

This area helps shape Montclair’s public narrative and brings visibility to the people, programs, research and initiatives that reflect the University’s mission and momentum.

Research and Insights

Research and Insights supports communications and marketing strategy through audience research, message insights, data review and stakeholder feedback.

This function helps UCM and University partners make more informed decisions. Research and Insights work is typically connected to institutional priorities, major initiatives, campaign planning or projects with broad audience impact.

Internal Communications

The Internal Communications team supports messages that help faculty, staff and campus audiences stay informed, connected to University priorities and build pride in being a Red Hawk.

This work includes internal brand storytelling, campus message planning, internal email strategy, change communications and coordination with Student Communications.

Creative Services

We support branded print, digital, photography and video projects that help campus partners communicate with clarity and consistency. This area includes both direct production support and self-service resources for common needs. Because UCM has limited production capacity, some requests may be supported through templates, guidance, approved assets or best practices.

Marketing

Our Marketing team leads the University's marketing strategy, enrollment marketing initiatives, and paid advertising efforts while ensuring a consistent and compelling Montclair brand experience across communications, marketing materials, websites, presentations, signage, and other University touchpoints.

Brand Marketing allows Montclair to present a distinct, recognizable identity across all communications, ensuring we speak with one voice while empowering colleges, schools, departments and offices to engage their specific audiences. Strategic Marketing helps advance Montclair’s enrollment, reputation, and institutional goals through audience-focused marketing strategies, advertising, brand management, and campaign development. Together, these resources help faculty, staff and partners use Montclair’s identity with confidence and care.

Website Strategy and Resources

Our Web Development and Experience team supports faculty, staff, web content editors, and campus partners who manage or contribute to Montclair’s web presence.

These resources help campus partners create accessible, useful and findable web content that supports user needs and aligns with University standards.

Our Social Media team supports official Montclair-affiliated social media channels and helps campus partners create content that is accurate, engaging, responsible and aligned with the University brand. This area includes guidance for account managers, content creators, interns, ambassadors and approved users of social media tools.
