Our Vision
Montclair Unbound is an ambitious effort to rethink higher education in response to evolving technology and how people learn and connect. Grounded in Montclair State University's public mission and commitment to the common good, the initiative creates flexible, student-centered degree pathways that meet students where they are in their lives, communities and careers through blended learning and Montclair Online.
At its core, Montclair Unbound is a movement to redefine what inclusive higher education can and should look like.

Montclair Unbound advances a more adaptable university experience through four interconnected areas of focus: flexible learning, student-centered support, workforce alignment and innovation. Together, these areas support the University’s broader transformation toward a more accessible and responsive learning environment.
Flexible Learning
Programs are designed around students’ lives, offering blended formats that combine in-person, online and real-time learning experiences. Through Montclair Online, Unbound supports fully online academic programs designed to expand access while maintaining academic quality.
Online Student Success
The Online Student Success team is committed to creating an exceptional online student experience that promotes persistence, belonging and academic achievement. We design and deliver integrated support strategies tailored to the needs of online learners, ensuring they have access to the resources, guidance and connections needed to thrive.
Through proactive outreach, personalized support and cross-campus collaboration, we help online students successfully navigate their academic journey while balancing work, family and other responsibilities. By connecting students to the right support at the right time, we foster engagement and empower learners to achieve their goals.
Workforce Alignment
Montclair Unbound collaborates with employers, nonprofit organizations and public agencies to align academic programs with workforce needs, supporting customized cohorts, professional development, degree pathways and regional talent development. The Montclair PSEG Partnership reflects this approach, advancing industry-aligned learning and workforce development.
Innovation & Inclusion
Montclair Unbound partners with faculty, departments and instructional design to support innovative approaches to teaching and learning that advance academic excellence, expand opportunity and foster new models of education. This includes co-developing new approaches to course design, delivery and credentialing that reflect emerging models of higher education.
How We Support the University
Montclair Unbound serves as a strategic partner to academic departments, faculty and University leadership in developing high-quality online learning opportunities. Our team supports online program development, instructional design, quality assurance, marketing, communications and enrollment strategy. We also collaborate with employers and community partners to expand access and align programs with workforce needs.
State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (SARA)
Montclair State University participates in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (SARA), which establish national standards that support the delivery of high-quality online education across state lines and provide a consistent framework for oversight of distance education programs.
