Civic and Voter Engagement

The Civic and Voter Engagement Office helps you get involved, make your voice heard and create change on campus and beyond. Through service opportunities such as; voter education and advocacy, we aim to connect students with the issues that matter and provide opportunities to take action in meaningful ways. Located in the Office of Student Engagement, the office partners with registered student organizations and national partners such as the Andrew Goodman Foundation, ALLin and League of Women Voters to support nonpartisan student engagement in the democratic process.

Express Yourself on Campus

Montclair State University supports free expression and open dialogue. You have the right to share your views and engage in conversations about the issues that matter to you. Learn More about our Expressive Activity Policy,
 

Email: Reach out to decision-makers to share your perspective, raise awareness, and push for change.

Phone: Call elected officials or organizations directly. Be clear about your message and what you’re asking for.

Social Media: Use your platforms to spread awareness, share information, and engage others in important conversations.

Meet with Elected Officials: Connect directly with leaders in your community. Share your perspective, ask questions, and build relationships that support your cause.

  • Not Every Moment Needs a Reaction: Some speakers are looking for engagement. Choosing not to engage is always an option.
  • Be Mindful of your actions: Public interactions may be recorded or shared online.
  • Violence is Never Acceptable: Actions should always align with University expectations outlined in the student code of conduct and the law.

If you encounter perspectives you disagree with, you still have options:

  • Walk Away: Sometimes the most powerful response is disengaging.
  • Organize Your Own Demonstration: Gather others and advocate for what matters to you while following University guidelines.
  • Have Conversations: Engage in respectful dialogue to better understand different perspectives.
