Three Branches of the Montclair Student Government Association

The Student Government Association (SGA) of Montclair State University, Inc. is structured into three branches, Executive, Legislative and Judicial. Together, these branches work to represent student voices, uphold policies and enhance the overall student experience.

Executive Branch

The Executive Board consists of four elected student leaders who serve as trustees of the organization:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary

Presidential Cabinet

The Presidential Cabinet is made up of appointed student leaders who advise the President and lead efforts in key areas such as academic affairs, student advocacy, outreach and communications. Cabinet members collaborate closely with the Executive Board to address student concerns and execute strategic initiatives.

Leadership and Support Roles

Additional leadership roles within the Executive Branch include positions such as Chief of Staff and Attorney General, who support operations, ensure compliance with SGA statutes and provide guidance on governance and decision-making.

Meet the Executive Branch

The Executive Branch serves as the leadership and operational arm of SGA, responsible for enforcing statutes, representing the student body and leading major initiatives across campus.

Lea Spasic is a first-generation foreigner student from Serbia who moved to the United States in 2023 to pursue her studies at Montclair State University. She is majoring in Accounting with a minor in Finance and hopes to build a career in forensic accounting or public auditing. Before serving as SGA Executive Treasurer, Lea served as an SGA Legislator, Clerk and Organizational Liaison, where she supported Registered Student Organizations through financial guidance, advocacy and organizational development. 

Outside of campus, Lea works at Carl Stahl Sava Industries and enjoys combining her passion for finance, problem-solving and leadership in both her professional and student life.

Legislative Branch

The Legislative Branch represents the student body through advocacy, policy-making and oversight.

The Legislative Branch:

  • Writes and votes on bills that impact students.
  • Advocates for the needs of over 18,000 undergraduate students.
  • Collaborates with campus partners to improve student life.

Judicial Branch

The Judicial Branch serves as the governing body that ensures fairness, accountability and adherence to SGA policies.

  • Interprets the SGA Constitution and statutes.
  • Reviews disputes and organizational decisions.
  • Ensures due process within student government.

The Judicial Branch is composed of student justices who uphold the integrity of SGA operations and ensure all actions align with established guidelines.
