Workshops & Trainings

Advocacy & Outreach is offering three new and improved workshops and training for 2026-27!

Our team is formally trained to speak on identity-centered topics including queer allyship, self-advocacy and community accountability. Typical sessions can include personal stories and experiences, information on campus resources for marginalized populations and a Q&A period. We welcome being invited into residence halls, academic classrooms, leadership training, sports teams, religious organizations, Greek organizations, student groups and other campus communities.

We are able to facilitate all of our sessions on both Montclair and Bloomfield campus. We kindly request that you submit the form four weeks prior to the suggested date and time for the session.

Identity Signs

90 minutes

This workshop will encourage students to engage with their social identities, background and experiences and reflect on how their particular constellation of identities impacts their daily lives and how they interact with others. They will be walked through a series of prompts that ask them to identify their salient identities based on particular experiences. For example, they could be asked which identity their family talked about the most within their childhood living space. At the core of this workshop, we ask students to engage with the theory of intersectionality and understand how the way we see ourselves impacts our everyday interactions.

A large open space will be needed for this workshop and requires a projector, laptop/computer connection and audio capabilities.

Advocacy & Outreach in Essence

60 minutes

Students will be introduced to the different parts of Advocacy & Outreach including our program spaces, our workshops and training, our resources (including Rocky’s Closet, Red Hawk Pantry and Bear Necessities) and our Empowering Our Communities Project initiatives. We will cover our offerings for the Montclair and Bloomfield communities. As a group, we will discuss advocacy skills, engage in identity-centered activities and practice addressing harm together through scenarios.

This lesson is perfect for new students, campus collaborators and staff meetings. This workshop requires a projector, laptop/computer connection and audio capabilities.
