Move-In/Out Information
Living on campus is an exciting part of your Montclair State University experience. From move-in day to move-out, Residence Life is here to help you feel prepared, supported and at home.
Get Ready for Move-In!
Before arriving on campus, make sure you have completed all required steps, including your housing agreement, immunization records and any outstanding account requirements.
Students will receive a designated move-in date and time, along with important details, through their Montclair email prior to arrival.
Move-In Day Checklist
Before arriving on campus, make sure you are ready to go:
- Check your assigned move-in date and time in your Montclair email
- Complete your housing agreement in RMS
- Submit your immunization records
- Confirm your emergency contact information in NEST
- Review your student account balance or payment plan
- Pack only approved items for your space
- Label your belongings for an easier move-in process
- Consider getting a renter's insurance policy!

Move-In Day
Move-in is designed to be a smooth and structured process to help you get settled quickly.
- You will be assigned a specific move-in date and time
- Staff will be available to direct you and assist with check-in
- You will unload your belongings in designated areas before moving your vehicle
- Guests may assist, but should be limited to reduce congestion
Students may be required to complete pre-arrival steps before being cleared to check in, including account balance requirements, submitting emergency contacts and completing required forms. All information will be sent to your Montclair email prior to keep you on track!
Move-Out & Closing
At the end of the semester, students are expected to move out within 24 hours after their last final exam for both the fall and spring semesters.
Before leaving:
- Remove all personal belongings
- Clean your room and shared spaces
- Dispose of trash properly
- Return all keys using the required check-out process
- Ensure windows are closed, lights are off and doors are locked
Failure to follow proper check-out procedures may result in additional charges or fees. Residence Life staff will send instructions and be available to assist during the move-out processes. They will also check each room after move-out to assess for any damages.
