The Office of Residence Life offers opportunities for you to get involved through leadership roles, programming and community engagement. Whether you’re looking to gain experience, meet new people or make an impact, there are ways to get connected.

Work for Residence Life

The Office of Residence Life is one of the largest student employers on campus, offering a variety of leadership positions within residential communities.
These roles provide hands-on experience in leadership, communication, problem-solving and community building—skills that carry beyond your time at Montclair State University.

Available Student Roles

  • Montclair Campus Community Assistant (CA): Live-in role supporting residents, responding to needs and maintaining a safe environment
  • Bloomfield Campus Resident Assistant (RA): Live-in role supporting residents, responding to needs and maintaining a safe environment
  • Community Programmer (CP): Plans and hosts events that build community and engagement
  • Desk Assistant (DA): Supports front desk operations and creates a welcoming environment
  • Facilities Assistant (FA): Assists with building operations, inspections and facilities support
  • Office Assistant (OA): Supports administrative tasks and day-to-day operations

All positions are posted through Handshake, and students must attend an information session during the hiring process.

Programming & Community Engagement

Residence Life offers a wide range of programs, events and workshops designed to help you connect with others and make the most of your experience on campus. From large community events to smaller, informal gatherings, there are opportunities throughout the year to:

  • Meet new people
  • Build connections within your hall
  • Learn new skills
  • Get involved in campus life

Community Assistants (CAs) and residential staff regularly host programs tailored to your community, making it easy to get involved right where you live.

Residence Hall Association (RHA)

The Residence Hall Association (RHA) gives residents a voice in shaping the on-campus experience. RHA works to:

  • Advocate on behalf of residential students
  • Enhance the residential experience through events and initiatives
  • Address community needs and concerns
  • Promote connection and belonging across campus
  • Getting involved with RHA is a great way to take on a leadership role and make an impact within your community.

Summer Opportunities

Residence Life also offers opportunities for returning student staff to stay involved during the summer. Summer staff support residential communities and conference operations through:

  • Duty coverage
  • Front desk and office support
  • Program planning and events
  • Health and safety inspections

These roles are available to current Residence Life staff members who will be returning for the fall semester.
