Here’s how it works and what you need to know before getting started.

Make Sure You’re Eligible
Before you can participate in recruitment or intake, you must:
- Be an undergraduate student
- Complete at least 12 Montclair State University credit hours
- Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7
- Attend a Hazing Prevention Workshop
- Complete a Grade Release form through Engage
Students are eligible to join after their first semester.

Explore Your Options
Each council offers a different experience, so take time to learn what fits you best. Attend events like Meet the Greeks or the Greek Organization Fair, connect with members and ask questions.
All organizations host recruitment and intake (the joining process) during specific times of the semester.

Go Through Recruitment or Intake
Each organization has its own process, but here’s what to expect:
- Recruitment/intake begins after the first full week of classes
- Intake programs must end at least one week before the last day of classes
- New member intake programs last no more than six weeks
Before starting, you’ll need to:
- Complete a grade release form through Engage
- Attend a required hazing prevention workshop
- Be confirmed eligible by the Greek Life Team
Once everything is approved, your intake program can officially begin.

Complete New Member Education
Your new member experience is designed to help you learn about your organization, build connections and grow as a leader.
Important expectations:
- No activities take place during University breaks
- No activities are allowed past midnight
- Activities are not permitted in residence halls
- No pre-pledging or participation before official approval
- No social restrictions or forced participation
All activities must follow University policies and safety expectations.
