Youth & Community Programs
Campus Recreation extends beyond campus, offering programs for youth, families and community members at the Student Recreation Center. Programs are designed to build skills, promote safety and create fun, active experiences for all ages. See registration information below for swim lessons, birthday parties and youth sports camps. Registration can be done online, and we highly encourage parents/participants to create a profile before registration begins.
Safety School & Courses
Courses such as lifeguard training and safety programs are offered periodically.
Lifeguard Certification
Become certified as an American Red Cross Lifeguard and learn how to respond to aquatic emergencies, provide CPR/AED and First Aid, and keep swimmers safe. Successful participants will receive a certification valid for two years.
This course is offered in a blended learning format. All online coursework must be completed before attending in-person sessions.
Requirements
- Cost: $350 (discounts for current Montclair State University students)
- Must be at least 15 years old
- Complete the online coursework
- Pass a swim skills assessment
Already Certified? We offer a review and renewal recertification course!
Additional Requirements for Recertification
- Cost: $275 (discounts for current Montclair State University students)
- Hold a current certification or one that expired within the last 30 days

Host Your Next Birthday Party at the Rec Pool!
We'd love to help celebrate you. Each party includes pool access, a party room, lifeguards and staff support, organized activities and free swim time.

- 2-hour party experience
- Option to bring your own food, decorations and music
- $250.00 for up to 30 swimmers
- Additional time available for $115.00 (based on availability)
Learn to Swim Program
Our Learn to Swim program is divided into classes based on age, not ability (ages 5-8, ages 8-13 and adults 18+) and requires registration. Once you register for the appropriate time, our instructors will sort the classes by ability and comfort level, so all of our participants will be working with others at a similar level.
