Faculty Development
Faculty development is an ongoing process that evolves throughout the academic career, from joining the university to advancing teaching, scholarship, leadership, and service. Montclair offers a wide range of programs, communities, and learning opportunities to support continuous professional growth and foster connections across disciplines. Explore resources for new and adjunct faculty, research support, dialogue across difference, faculty learning opportunities, international faculty development, and programs that showcase faculty expertise and innovation. These opportunities strengthen teaching, support scholarship, and advance Montclair's mission through continuous learning and collaboration.
Faculty Development Programs
New Faculty Support
New faculty are encouraged to explore essential resources from the Office for Faculty Excellence and other campus partners linked on this page.
Faculty Research Support
OFE supplements services for faculty research and career development provided by the Office of Sponsored Programs and the colleges and schools with a series of programs offered by OFE staff, Montclair faculty, and external providers contracted by the OFE.
Adjunct Essentials
We invite adjunct faculty to take advantage of our programs, workshops, consultation services, and discussion groups–many of which can be accessed remotely, in recognition that adjunct faculty’s time on campus is often limited.
Dialogue Across Difference
Higher education has traditionally served as a key institution for sustaining democratic systems. Colleges and universities cultivate students’ capacity to see themselves as civic agents, critically examine the rights and ideals of citizenship, and participate in defining their community contexts.
Faculty Showcases
Each year, the Office for Faculty Excellence creates opportunities for Montclair faculty to share their research, community-engagement work, and teaching and learning expertise with colleagues.
Courses for Faculty
In addition to synchronous development opportunities and web-resources, Montclair faculty have access to facilitated and self-paced courses that can support their teaching development and professional advancement.
External Faculty Development
Faculty are encouraged to seek out external opportunities for development that will help advance their teaching and research.
