Montclair Unbound Learning Design

The unit connected with Montclair Unbound (named Unbound Learning Design) will be responsible for supporting design and faculty support for Montclair Online programs and related courses. Additionally, Unbound provides an online teaching foundations course for Montclair Online faculty teaching within the Unbound (Online) Platform in Canvas. Unbound does not provide support for the design or maintenance of online certificates other than those connected directly to a degree); for these services, faculty should go to OFE for support.

The Office for Faculty Excellence (OFE)

The Office for Faculty Excellence (OFE) supports faculty success as teachers, scholars, leaders, and leaders of the intellectual community, across the full career lifecycle and across all faculty positions — adjunct, teaching, and tenure-line. Faculty Development supports onboarding, career transitions (hiring, reappointment, promotion, tenure), scholarly development, leadership development, and community-building initiatives. Teaching & Learning supports teaching through foundational, cohort-based teaching programs, programming and consultations on course design, pedagogical support and student-facing initiatives that strengthen the learning experience across modalities. Learning Technologies supports faculty use of Canvas and other learning technologies, provides training and support on all of our available learning tools, leads accessibility compliance efforts, and helps faculty leaders use data to make informed decisions. Collectively, the OFE team coordinates activities that support faculty collaboration, learning and advancement.

Academic Affairs Technology Group

The Academic Affairs Technology group will provide technical integrations and technical support for Canvas. As in the past, rapid support for IT-related technical issues can be found at IT Help & Support, by email at itservicedesk@montclair.edu, or by phone at 973-655-7971.

Frequently Asked Questions

In the past I wrote to itds@montclair.edu for my teaching technology problems. Who do I write to now?

You can book a consultation with one of the OFE learning technology trainers for pedagogical guidance, write to itservicedesk@montclair.edu (our new SNOW technical support system) for technical issues, and faculty@montclair.edu for all other teaching questions. For courses that are part of the Montclair Unbound portfolio, write to unboundfaculty@montclair.edu.

Where do I go for learning technology and teaching support if my course is asynchronous, synchronous, or hybrid, but I am not teaching a course in a Montclair Unbound (ONP) program?

You go to OFE (only courses coded ONP would be supported by Unbound).

Where do I go if I am teaching an Unbound/Montclair Online course and need support?

Write to unboundfaculty@montclair.edu.

I am new to the university, teaching in both online (non-ONP) and a traditional in-person format, and would like help setting up my Canvas courses.

OFE provides pedagogical support for all courses outside of Unbound. If your course is part of an Unbound program, you can work with your assigned instructional designer to help set up the syllabus or contact unboundfaculty@montclair.edu.

I need assistance copying my course and/or cross-listing course sections. Who do I contact?

For non-Unbound courses, contact OFE for guidance with Canvas course setup and teaching-related use of Canvas. For technical assistance with the course copy or cross-listing process, contact AATG. If the course is part of the Montclair Unbound portfolio, contact unboundfaculty@montclair.edu.
