University Collaborative for Inclusive Excellence (UCIE)

The University Collaborative for Inclusive Excellence (the Collaborative) is dedicated to fostering a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive campus environment where students, alumni, faculty, and staff can thrive and reach their full potential in both learning and work settings.

The Collaborative brings together students, alumni, faculty, and staff from across the University, representing a wide range of roles, classifications, experiences, and lengths of service.

Mission & Purpose

The Collaborative’s aim is to weave inclusivity into the very fabric of our university, promoting an environment that values, respects, and supports community members.

This Collaborative will serve as a central hub for dialogue, innovation, and action, and serves as the primary advisory committee to the Office of Inclusive Excellence and the University’s Leadership Team on matters promoting inclusive excellence and fairness, connection, and belonging concepts.

Specifically, the Collaborative will:

  • Advocate for systemic change: Drive forward initiatives that address barriers to inclusion and connection through policy creation and recommending accountability measures.
  • Promote University wide dialogue and collaboration: Create spaces for meaningful conversations to amplify marginalized voices and to move away from siloed work that has stifled our community.
  • Support growth and development: Advance our community members around inclusivity and belonging and increase their knowledge base and skill sets to perform at a higher level in their roles.
  • Measure and enhance impact: Create data-informed evaluative processes for everything so that nothing is based on an individual’s experience, but on the communities’ experiences that we’ve collected and studied.

Introducing the University Collaborative for Inclusive Excellence (Inaugural Group)

The inaugural group of the University Collaborative for Inclusive Excellence represents a meaningful step in Montclair State University’s continued commitment to fostering a welcoming, fair, connected, and inclusive campus community.

Comprised of students, faculty, staff, and community members, the Collaborative will help advance shared responsibility for inclusive excellence by engaging in dialogue, learning, reflection, and recommendations that strengthen belonging and support institutional growth. This first cohort will play an important role in shaping the Collaborative’s foundation and helping move Montclair’s inclusion efforts forward with intention, care, and collective action.

Membership and Application Timeline

Membership on the Collaborative is a two-year commitment and is open to all active Montclair employees. Each year the Office of Inclusive Excellence will open applications in December, with selected members announced in April. New members will participate in summer training before joining the full Collaborative and a subcommittee assignment in September.
