Community Impact Day: Inclusion in Action

Community Impact Day reflects Montclair State University’s commitment to putting inclusion, engagement, and service into action. The Office of Inclusive Excellence and Community Engagement and Partnerships came together to create this initiative because building an inclusive community extends beyond our campus—it includes strengthening relationships with the communities we serve, creating opportunities for employees to connect across roles and divisions, and using our collective talents to make a meaningful impact.

The day was intentionally scheduled during Week 7 of the Fall semester, when students are on Fall Break, to create greater opportunities for faculty and staff to participate. By stepping away from our usual routines and serving alongside colleagues, employees can build new relationships, strengthen our sense of community, and contribute to organizations and neighborhoods throughout the region.

Community Impact Day is more than a day of service—it is an opportunity to demonstrate what inclusive excellence looks like in practice: showing up, working together, building meaningful connections, and making an impact beyond ourselves.

The purpose of Community Impact Day is to engage Montclair State University faculty and staff in meaningful, pre-identified community

Our goal is that Community Impact Day will:

  • Strengthen relationships among colleagues,
  • Deepen partnerships with diverse local community organizations, and
  • Visibly demonstrate the University’s commitment to civic engagement, inclusion, and shared responsibility.
