Red Hawk Sports Network
Founded in 2019 with four broadcast interns and a single camera, Red Hawk Sports Network has grown into Montclair State University's student-run multimedia sports broadcasting organization. RHSN now produces approximately 20 live games per semester, led by a student team of six broadcast interns, a social media team, and a production intern, delivering multi-camera coverage of all MSU home athletic events. Through SPTC 390, a credited communications course, students also produce original studio programming including Inside the Nest, Trivia: The Show, and Red Hawk Spotlight.
Broadcast Experience That Translates to the Real World
Red Hawk Sports Network (RHSN) productions are built to ESPN+ standards. For live games, students construct and operate a remote-style control room at each athletic venue, gaining direct, hands-on experience with professional broadcast equipment. That same level of real-world application carries into our studio shows, where students learn rundowns, produce features, and develop the technical and editorial skills that set them apart in the job market. Throughout the semester, students also access internship and industry partnership opportunities that extend their experience beyond the classroom.
Alumni Outcomes
RHSN graduates have gone on to careers at some of the most recognizable names in sports and media including ESPN, NBC Sports, NFL Films, MLB Network, Major League Baseball, NHL Network, the New York Giants, New York Jets and New York Red Bulls. Others have built successful careers as freelance camera operators, editors and videographers. Recent graduates have secured roles at the New York Liberty, ESPN First Take and local news affiliates like WTAJ-TV and WBNG-12 News.
