German Resources
Recognized nationally as a Center of Excellence, the German Program emphasizes inclusivity, diversity and community engagement. Students can pursue a major or minor in German through courses in language, film, culture and literature taught in both German and English. The program is home to a SPARK for German Lab, supported by the American Association of Teachers of German and the Goethe-Institut, and offers opportunities to engage beyond the classroom through the German Club, cultural events and outings. Students may also participate in the Montclair-Graz exchange program, which provides the opportunity to study in Austria.
German Club
The German Club at Montclair State is an extremely involved community of students who love the German language and culture. With an E-board that consists of German majors who absolutely love what they are studying, club members can feel ensured that their best interests are being cared for. Any student who is interested in the German Language or the German way of life is encouraged to join. We would love to have you as part of our crew!
German Honor Society
The National German Honor Society, Delta Phi Alpha, seeks to recognize excellence in the study of German and to provide an incentive for higher scholarship. The Society aims to promote the study of the German language, literature and civilization and endeavors to emphasize those aspects of German life and culture which are of universal value and which contribute to man’s eternal search for peace and truth.

Our Programs
The German program offers courses in basic language, conversation and composition, and translation, as well as German literature, history and culture courses. German and Business
German is the most important language for European business markets. German companies like Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, DHL Shipping, Allianz, Deutsche Bank, UBS, T-Mobile, Merck, Bayer, Pfizer, BASF Chemicals, Aldi, Adidas, and many others have an important presence in American markets, and American companies are increasingly launching international European offices based in German-speaking countries. Combine Interests in German and Business:
- Major in German, with Minor in Business, Entrepreneurship, Economics, or Business Relationships and Professional Selling.
- Language, Business & Culture Major with Concentration in German.
- Major in Business with a minor in German.
- Full year or Semester exchange program with Graz, Austria or Konstanz, Germany. Many Business courses offered at each, including courses in English.
- Summer 4-week August intensive language program in Konstanz, Germany. All levels.
