NAIS Field School
The Native American and Indigenous Studies (NAIS) Field School is an immersive experiential learning program that partners students with Indigenous communities across New Jersey. Through hands-on fieldwork and collaborative projects, participants explore environmental justice, land stewardship, cultural preservation, and Indigenous food sovereignty while gaining meaningful real-world experience supporting Native-led initiatives.
What to Expect
The NAIS Field School is a 4-week immersive learning experience where you will work with tribal communities across the state to promote:

• Free to participate! Meals, transportation & supplies provided.
• Stipends for participants
• No pre-reqs

The 2026 Native American and Indigenous Studies Summer Field School is a collaboration between New Jersey’s Indigenous communities and the NAIS program and New Jersey Center for Indigenous Justice at Montclair State University.

The Field School takes place over the course of 4 weeks from mid-May to mid-June and is open to all current Montclair State undergraduate and graduate students. All majors are welcome. Transportation, meals (for off-campus days), and camping gear are provided — no camping experience required!
