Examining the languages, cultures, religions and identities that connect people and communities across the world.
About Us
The Department of Global Cultural Studies examines the languages, cultures, religions and identities that connect people and communities across the world. Language study serves as a foundation for the department's work, providing pathways to understanding diverse cultures, histories, traditions and ways of knowing.
Through the study of global languages, literature, translation, cultural expression, religion and Indigenous and Latino experiences, faculty and students explore how people communicate, create meaning and navigate an increasingly interconnected world. The department's interdisciplinary approach fosters linguistic and cultural literacy while advancing scholarship, research and engagement across local and global communities.
