Montclair State University provides a comprehensive suite of network services designed to deliver secure, reliable, and high-performance connectivity for students, faculty, staff, and guests across campus.

Wireless Access is powered by the encrypted MSU-Secure network, ensuring protected connectivity on personal devices, along with eduroam, which enables seamless access at thousands of participating institutions worldwide. Users can easily manage their registered devices through the My Device Portal, a centralized tool for adding, editing, removing, or reporting lost or stolen devices.

For situations requiring maximum performance, the University offers Wired Connections in faculty and staff offices and most residential halls. This direct network access is ideal for data-intensive activities, such as large file transfers, streaming, gaming, and printing, delivering faster speeds and lower latency.

Guest Services provide convenient, secure options for campus visitors to get connected quickly through self-registration or sponsored access, with support for a variety of devices and operating systems.

Together, these services ensure a seamless, secure, and efficient networking experience across campus, whether connecting wirelessly, through a wired connection, or as a guest.

  • Use MSU-Secure, a encrypted secure network recommended for students, faculty, and staff with a Montclair State NetID and password.
  • Use MSU-Guest, a secured guest network intended for visitors available through a self registration guest process.
  • Use eduroam if you are visiting from a participating institution or prefer to connect using your home organization credentials

Eduroam Access

The University also supports eduroam (education roaming), allowing faculty, staff, students, and visitors from participating institutions to securely connect on campus and at over 5,000 institutions worldwide using their home organization credentials.

Together, these services provide a seamless, secure, and flexible wireless experience on campus and beyond.

Montclair State University offers reliable hardwired network connectivity in faculty and staff offices, as well as in most student residential halls. This direct connection provides a stable and high-performance network experience for campus users.

For optimal performance, IT recommends using a wired connection for activities that demand higher speed and lower latency, such as data-intensive applications, streaming large files, online gaming, and printing. Wired access ensures consistent connectivity and enhanced network efficiency.

Wired data jacks are available in select residence hall rooms. To activate or troubleshoot a connection, please submit an IT Service Desk Ticket and include the data jack ID number (located on the jack) to ensure proper connectivity.

Got a Montclair NetID?

Use the MSU Secure Network. It is the recommended option for all students, faculty, and staff.

Register my Device

The My Device Portal is a centralized platform for managing all devices registered to the Montclair State University network.

Users can easily add, update, or remove devices connected to the MSU Secure network, as well as report lost or stolen devices to help maintain account security.

Members of the Montclair State University community may register up to 10 internet-capable devices. To register a device, you will need its MAC address. Instructions for locating your device’s MAC address can be found on the manufacturer’s website or support documentation.
