The CHSS Student Success Center partners with faculty, staff, and campus resources to support students throughout their academic journey. We take a holistic, proactive approach to student success, providing tools, guidance, and connections that help students stay on track and reach their goals.

Through a data-informed and adaptive approach, we encourage undergraduates as they explore their interests, skills, and abilities while prioritizing persistence to ensure all students have access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. We empower students to overcome challenges on the pathway to success, fostering the critical thinking, diverse perspectives, and engaged citizenship that are the hallmarks of humanities and social sciences education.

Our Goals

  • Partner with and support undergraduates as they navigate their academic and career journey.
  • Strengthen relationships between students, faculty, staff, and campus departments to create collaborative support networks.
  • Increase students’ knowledge of successful behaviors by enacting intentional support practices and connecting students to resources within the College and University.
  • Facilitate exploration of academic interests and career pathways through internships, research opportunities, mentorship and graduate school preparation.

Mentor Collective Program

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences Mentor Collective program enhances the student experience by linking them one-on-one with an alumni or peer mentor. Students are paired with someone invested in their success — a person ready to listen, inspire, help navigate challenges and recognize opportunities. Students will learn what to expect in school, how to approach challenges, gain career advice and valuable insights, while mentors will build their networks and develop skills to become better professionals and leaders.

"My mentor helped me answer the question of how to form strong relationships with my professors by giving me an actionable strategy to having strong purposeful visits to their office hours."

How it Works

Students will be matched with an alumni or peer mentor based on common interests, background, academics and professional aspirations. To get started, students and mentors register and complete an online survey to assess personality and experience.

What do mentors and mentees discuss?

  • How will my major impact my professional options?
  • How do I balance the demands of school, responsibilities, and socializing?
  • How can I set myself up for academic, social, and career success?
  • How do I make connections with peers and professional contacts?
