Financial Aid for Summer Enrollment

Financial aid for summer is not automatic. Eligibility depends on your enrollment, remaining aid from the academic year and federal and state program requirements.

Who Is Eligible

You may be eligible for summer financial aid if you:

Students who are not meeting SAP are not eligible for summer financial aid.

Enrollment Requirements

Your enrollment level impacts your eligibility:

  • Undergraduate students must enroll in at least 6 credits to qualify for federal loans.
  • Graduate students must enroll in at least 3 credits.

Types of Summer Aid

Federal Pell Grant

You may qualify if you have remaining eligibility.

  • Available even if enrolled in fewer than 12 credits
  • Year-round Pell may be available for students enrolled in at least 1 credit
  • Counts toward your lifetime Pell limit

NJ TAG Grant

You may qualify if you:

  • Received TAG during the academic year
  • Enroll in at least 6 credits
  • Take courses required for your program

Funding is determined by NJ HESAA and may vary.

Federal Loans

You may qualify if:

  • You are enrolled at least half-time
  • You have remaining annual loan eligibility

If you have already used your loan eligibility:

A Summer Loan Request Form may be required.

Private Loans

If you are not eligible for federal loans, you may explore private educational loan options.

When Aid Is Disbursed

  • Summer aid is typically disbursed in mid-June
  • Funds are not available earlier

Plan accordingly for housing, books and other expenses.

Important to Know

  • Financial aid is based on your enrollment and available funding
  • Dropping or withdrawing from courses may reduce or cancel your aid
  • You may be responsible for unpaid balances if aid is reduced
  • Non-matriculated or visiting students are not eligible for federal aid
