πŸ’¬ Graduate Student Spotlight

Congratulations to Oluwaseun Adeyinka (she/her), a Ph.D. candidate in Environmental Science and Management and graduate teaching assistant, whose summer internship at Con Edison has been extended through the fall! As a member of the supply chain sustainability team, she helps source materials responsibly and gives retired equipment a second life through reuse, resale and recycling. The work ties closely to her doctoral research, and as she puts it, "it's been a great way to see sustainability strategy play out at the scale of a major utility."

πŸ‘‰ Share your wins with Alexa Spear, Communications Coordinator for the Graduate Center, at speara@montclair.edu to be featured in our next newsletter.

πŸ’ͺ Be a Strong Graduate Student

The Be a Strong Graduate Student campaign highlights one focus each week to help you build habits that can make graduate school feel more manageable. Challenge yourself to check something off each week!

  • Week 6 – Build Your Professional Network: Sign up for Handshake, browse career events, book a career counseling session, create a LinkedIn profile and add Montclair connections, or ask a professor which professional organizations to join in your field.
  • Week 7 – Know Your Strengths & Weaknesses: Take stock of what's working and what to change, do coursework where you're most effective and save your best hours of the day for studying.
  • Week 8 – Midterm Reset: Revisit your strategies for success, come to class prepared and present (phone away, extra tabs closed), participate often and keep getting to know your cohort.

πŸ‘‰  Review the full week-by-week campaign for more ideas on how to put each goal into practice.

🧠 Mental Health & Counseling Services

It’s normal to feel overwhelmed at the start of a new semester. If you could use a little extra support right now, free and confidential mental health resources are available.

πŸ’‘ Did You Know?

Mental Health First Aid is a free, eight-hour, in-person training that teaches you how to recognize signs of mental health and substance use challenges, offer initial support, connect someone to resources and respond in a crisis. No experience is needed, and you'll earn a certification that's valid for three years.

Training sessions are available Monday, October 19-Thursday, October 22 and are limited to 30 participants, so register early!
