Academic Advising for Faculty and Staff
The Office of Undergraduate Education serves as a central resource for faculty and staff advisors, fostering a collaborative advising culture that supports student success, retention and timely degree completion. Guided by national best practices and the university's "SSIPP" philosophy--sustained, strategic, integrated, proactive, and personalized advising--OUE partners with academic and support units across the institution to ensure students receive coordinated, high-quality support throughout their academic journey.
Advising is coordinated in each school, college, or program through leaders and staff who collaborate as part of the Advising Strategy Group.
This collaborative approach is supported by Navigate, Montclair's student success platform, which enables advisors, faculty and staff to coordinate care, issue alerts, document interactions, manage appointments and engage in proactive outreach. Together, these efforts help create a connected advising experience that empowers students to achieve their academic and personal goals.
Resources for Advisors
Advising Strategy Group
The Advising Strategy Group (ASG) is a leadership group of advising administrators that guides and coordinates advising initiatives across campus, led by the Associate Provost of Undergraduate Education. It oversees advising-related committees, ensures their work aligns with shared goals, and provides feedback on key deliverables.
ASG meets regularly to support coordinated, action-oriented planning and to help streamline communication across advising units. It also leads the development of advising priorities, including a shared mission and values, a strategic advising plan, and a campus-wide advising activity calendar.
