Experiential learning helps you connect what you learn in the classroom with real-world professional experience. Whether you're exploring career paths, gaining hands-on industry experience, or preparing for life after graduation, internships, Cooperative Education (Co-op), and micro-internships help you build confidence, expand your network, and strengthen your resume.

Internships:

  • Gain career-related experience while developing professional skills, exploring career interests, and building your resume. Internships may be paid or unpaid and may or may not offer academic credit. Opportunities can be found through Handshake or other trusted sources. Meet with your Career Advisor to discuss opportunities and determine the best fit for your goals.

     

Cooperative Education (Co-op):

  •  A Co-op is a structured, credit-bearing work experience that combines classroom learning with professional employment. Because Co-op experiences earn academic credit, you'll need to meet with your college's career team to determine eligibility and complete the approval process before accepting a position.

Micro-Internships: 

Micro-internships are short-term, paid professional projects that help you build skills, gain experience, and explore different career paths while working with real employers. Most projects require 10–40 hours and are available throughout the year through Parker Dewey, where you can create a free account, browse opportunities, and apply directly.

Not sure which experience is right for you? Meet with your Career Advisor to explore your options and find the opportunity that best fits your goals. If you're interested in earning academic credit through a Co-op or qualifying internship, meet with your college's Career Services team early to discuss eligibility, timelines, and academic requirements. Internship opportunities can be found through Handshake.and other trusted sources. Students seeking academic credit (co-op) must begin the approval process with Career Services at least one semester before enrolling in the corresponding course.
