Faculty & Staff Parking

Yes. Everyone who parks on campus needs to register their vehicle and obtain a parking permit. You can register your vehicle and get your permit online.

All faculty / staff parking on Montclair State University’s campus must be registered to a valid commuter permit or pay by hour using PaybyPhone® App. 

All employees can obtain a parking permit upon completion of the hiring process (usually when a NetID has been issued).

The permit you can obtain is dependent on classifications issued by University Human Resources. All those who received complimentary parking must still register for a parking permit.

All permits are virtual, meaning they are linked to your license plate number (no hangtags or decals!). So, make sure your vehicle information is accurate.

Faculty and Staff can purchase a permit through our online Portal. Alerts are sent to faculty when permits become available for sale.

The University provides complimentary parking for Full or Part Time Faculty/Staff. However, full and part time staff utilizing this option must still register for a Full-Time Faculty/Staff Permit or Part-Time Faculty/Staff Permit. Staff and faculty also have the option to utilize the Red Hawk Deck permit, which allows parking in the garage. 

The Red Hawk Deck permit price is commensurate upon the salary of the individual. Pricing listed above for pricing.

All individuals should register for a permit when they become available online. It is especially important to make sure your permit registration is completed before parking on campus.

You can have multiple vehicles listed on your permit but only one vehicle can be on campus at a time. You can add a vehicle on your account by going to the Parking Services Website, selecting account info, selecting “Manage account”, login, then select “Vehicles” at the top, and add vehicles as needed.

Permit sharing is not allowed by anyone parking on campus. Every member parking on campus needs their own, individual parking permit. If anyone is found in violation of this regulation, they risk consequences which may result in revoking the parking privileges.

• Available to full-time faculty, full-time staff, and adjunct faculty.

Allows parking in the following areas:

• Faculty/Staff Restricted Lots (Orange) with no time restrictions.
• Commuter Surface Lots (Yellow), Including CarParc Diem, with no time restrictions

Valid August 1 – July 31 of the following year.

• Available to non-contract employees. Not available if eligible for the Full-Time Faculty/Staff permit.

Allows parking in the following areas:

• Commuter Surface Lots (Yellow), excluding CarParc Diem, with no time restrictions.
• Faculty/Staff Restricted Lots (Orange) during the following hours:
  • Every Day: 3:30 PM – 6:00 AM
  • Weekends: 3:30 PM Friday – 6:00 AM Monday

Valid August 1 – July 31.

Allows parking in the following areas:

• Red Hawk Parking Deck with no time restrictions.
• Faculty/Staff Restricted Lots (Orange) with no time restrictions.
• Commuter Surface Lots (Yellow), excluding CarParc Diem, with no time restrictions.

$500 plus tax

Valid August 1 – July 31 of following year.

• Allows parking in Red Hawk Deck and Commuter Surface Lots (Yellow), including CarParc Diem, with no time restrictions.

$180 plus tax

Valid August 1 – July 31 of following year.

• Allows parking in Commuter Surface Lots (Yellow), including CarParc Diem, with no time restrictions.

The designated Faculty and Commuter lots, and the Red Hawk Deck, can all be utilized by Faculty. The designated lots can be viewed on Montclair State Univerity’s Parking Map.

Service Vehicle Permits : (Virtual)

• Valid from July 1 to July 31 of the following year.
• Allows the user to park in an SV space for a maximum of 90 minutes. Additional time may be requested by calling the Parking Office on a per-use basis.
• All University-owned vehicles are required to park in Service Vehicle Spaces. If one’s personal vehicle is believed to be needed as a service vehicle on campus, the Director, Dean, etc. of that department must verify that need. Departmental vehicles can also be assigned a Service Vehicle permit.

Alumni Permits:

• Allows parking in any Commuter Lots 1, 3 & 5 between 6:00 am-3:30 am Monday-Friday and all day Saturday and Sunday.
• Alumni ID is required to obtain this permit.
• Must not be registered for any class in the current semester.
• Permit is valid until the end of the current semester.

Emeritus Permits:

• Valid September 1 – August 31.
• Faculty members who have attained the rank of emeritus are eligible for the same parking privileges as full-time faculty and staff.
• The faculty member needs to present a copy of the status award letter to Parking Services to have their parking account updated.

Reserved Parking Permits:

• Valid September 1 – August 31.
• Provide access to reserved spaces for specific University needs and are issued to departments or University Administrators as approved by the Director’s Office of Parking Services. Reserved Parking Permits are priced at a premium and are to be renewed annually.

Board of Trustees Permits:

• Valid from July 1 to July 31 of the following year.
• Provides access to General Commuter Surface lots, Faculty/Staff Restricted lots, Service Vehicle lots.
• This permit does not allow access to reserved spaces designated to campus partners or Loading/Unloading designated spaces for more than 15 minutes.
• Service Vehicle spaces are also available, limited to 90 minutes.

Anyone that has been issued a state-issued hang tag or license plate through their local municipality/township may park in any accessible parking space in any lot or deck on campus. 

A parking permit or payment using PaybyPhone® is required along with the accessible hang tag/plate. 

Montclair State University Parking Services does not issue accessible parking permits.

General parking near the core of campus, including Carparc Diem, tends to fill up the fastest. 

If you are arriving on campus between 10 am and 1 pm Monday - Friday, the fastest option for getting to class is to park in Lot 45 or 60 and ride our free shuttle to the core of campus. 

Lots 45 and 60 tend to always have an abundant number of available spaces, even during peak times.

Tickets (citations) must be paid or appealed online through our Portal. 

Appeals must be made within twenty-one (21) days of the date the ticket is issued.

Parking Services enforces parking regulations all year round to maintain order and to safeguard permit holders’ parking privileges. The department uses citations and fines to communicate and correct behaviors for the benefit of permit holders.

Purchasing a parking permit and adhering to the regulations is the best way to avoid receiving a citation. 

When utilizing PaybyPhone®, make sure all information is entered accurately before walking away from your vehicle.

Anyone who has incurred $150 in parking fines is considered a scofflaw and may be booted and towed after 24 hours.

Parking Services utilize a flexible approach; all first-time appealed citations are reduced to a warning as a learning opportunity for both Parking Services and the customer with the citation. 

Parking Services also understands that people make a mistake occasionally, and therefore, over 80% of first-time citations in an academic year either are reduced to a warning or the fine reduced significantly.

Parking fines and fees are collected and deposited to the University General Fund. The general fund is maintained for construction activities and other operations, which include a share of utilities, landscaping, cleaning, signage, maintenance, and repair expenses.

In addition to operating costs, parking expenses include debt service for the parking structures and construction/equipment reserve. These reserve contributions fund future projects and required equipment purchases. Routine maintenance and periodic large-scale overhaul projects such as paving are required to keep our facilities safe and functioning properly.
