AI Institute Team
Montclair’s AI Institute team will focus on two interconnected areas of the University’s ongoing AI work: curriculum and faculty development.
Areas of Focus
AI in the Curriculum
The team will explore pathways to ensuring that students develop appropriate AI-related knowledge, competencies, and skills as part of their educational experience, such as a graduation requirement, integration into existing general education framework, and discipline-specific pedagogical approaches.
Teaching and Learning in the Age of AI
The team will also develop a more cohesive approach to faculty development around AI and teaching. Building beyond individual workshops, this work will emphasize faculty-to-faculty exchange, disciplinary context, different teaching modalities, and practical approaches faculty can adapt to their own courses and programs.
Developing an Institutional Approach
Throughout the Institute, the team will engage faculty, academic leadership, governance bodies, and other University stakeholders to inform this work. Particular attention will be given to questions of access and equity, instructional autonomy, disciplinary differences, and the resources faculty need to respond effectively to changes brought by AI.
