Health Promotion offers programs and co-sponsorship opportunities to support the well-being of the Montclair State University community. Programs are available for students affiliated campus organizations upon request.

Program Options

Request a Health Promotion Speaker

A staff member will lead an interactive program for your class or organization, typically around 45 minutes. Please submit requests at least three to four weeks in advance.

Workshops To-Go

Workshops To-Go are ready-made programs that allow you to facilitate a health-related workshop on your own. Each kit includes step-by-step instructions, materials and up-to-date health information.

To request a workshop, schedule a brief 15-minute appointment to review materials and pick up your kit.

Program Topics

When requesting a Health Promotion Speaker, we offer programs on a variety of topics, including:

  • Responsible Decision Making: Standard Program for GNED199 (New Student Seminar) classes – Interactive program covering basic facts about alcohol, drugs and safer sex practices, along with a discussion on the implications of high-risk drinking and available resources. 
  • Healthy Relationships: Identify and discuss characteristics of healthy relationships and ways to handle difficult relationship issues. 
  • Body Image: Examine individual, societal, cultural and media factors that contribute to body image and examine behavioral changes as a result of body image. 
  • Blood Alcohol Content Awareness: Define terms and factors affecting BAC, identify impact and resources. 
  • Stress Management: Define terms, identify stressors, learn techniques to manage stress. 
  • Safer Sex: Identify ways to reduce risk, develop skills, and identify resources to practice safer sex. A team member will reach out to you to discuss program options. 
  • Sleep: Identify and discuss sleep myths and facts, sleep deprivation, sleep cycles, and tips to improve sleep habits. 
  • About the Office of Health Promotion: This fifteen-minute overview highlights what the Office of Health Promotion does, how to get involved, and how to contact us.

Workshops To-Go Topics

Available workshops include:

  • Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC): This fifteen-minute overview highlights what the Office of Health Promotion does, how to get involved, and how to contact us. 
  • Condoms 101: Increase knowledge about condom use and identify steps in using a condom correctly. 
  • Healthy Relationships: Discuss the expectations for friendship, dating, and intimate relationships and identify characteristics of healthy relationships. 
  • HIV/AIDS 101: Identify the difference between HIV and AIDS, how HIV is transmitted and methods for prevention and risk reduction. 
  • Staying in Control, Alcohol Awareness: Discussion about how to drink responsibly, stay in control if you choose to drink and how to respond to an alcohol-related medical emergency. 
  • Stress Management: Identify personal stressors and discuss stress management techniques, including a guided meditation. 

Co-Sponsorship Guidelines

To be considered for co-sponsorship:

  • Requests must be submitted at least three weeks in advance, four weeks for events outside business hours
  • Events must be hosted by a recognized student organization or University office
  • Programs must be open and inclusive to the campus community
  • Topics must align with Health Promotion focus areas
  • Materials and promotional support are only provided when paired with a facilitated program
  • All marketing materials must be approved by Health Promotion staff

Business hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 4:30p.m. After submitting your request, a team member will follow up to schedule a brief meeting to review details.

Health Promotion

Health Promotion provides education, outreach and resources to support student well-being and help you make informed decisions. Through programs, peer education and prevention initiatives, the office promotes a healthy campus community for students. Focus areas include: safer sex and sexuality, alcohol, cannabis and other drugs, tobacco, body image, mental health, stress and sleep.
