Institutional Animal Care and Use

Montclair’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Program is committed to ensuring the ethical, humane, and responsible care and use of animals in research and teaching activities. The program supports high-quality science while maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare and regulatory compliance.

Through established policies, procedures, training, and oversight mechanisms, the university ensures that all animal activities are scientifically justified, conducted by qualified personnel, and carried out in accordance with applicable federal, state, and institutional requirements. Animal well-being, ethical review, and continuous program evaluation are central components of this commitment.

Oversight of the program is provided by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), which reviews and evaluates animal activities to ensure compliance and promote responsible research practices.
