Student Organizations

Getting involved beyond the classroom is an important part of life at the Cali School. Student organizations and activities give you ways to build community, develop leadership skills, collaborate creatively, and connect with professional networks. Whether your interests are in choral music, jazz, music education, music therapy, audio production, service, or career development, these opportunities can help you meet peers and mentors while expanding your skills and your sense of what is possible in the field.

Organizations & Activities Available for Students

Heather J. Buchanan, faculty advisor

MSU-ACDA, the student chapter of ACDA established in 2006-07, supports the MSU choral program by fostering and promoting the finest types of choral singing, and choral music education and engagement. Activities include leadership opportunities, professional development, and community outreach. 

David Sanders, faculty advisor

From workshops centered on music production, to hands-on audio work in and out of studio environments; the Audio Production Club (APC) is an organization constructed with teaching, learning, creating, and delivering excellent audio wherever we go, as our core values. We collaborate with other campus organizations to provide our expertise in audio and to constantly gain insight through audio-oriented experiences. Whether you are a major in audio/music, or are interested in sound, new members are always welcome and encouraged to join!

Student-founded organization that promotes the needs and interests of music therapy students. The elected officers and the membership meet several times per semester to hear presentations about music therapy and related disciplines, and to participate in university and community social events and service projects.

NAFME is an organization of American music educators dedicated to advancing and preserving music education as part of the core curriculum of schools in the United States. 

W.I.R.E.S is dedicated to promoting visibility and equal opportunities for women audio engineers, producers, and technicians by seeking events and professional opportunities through industry partners, organizations, and services. Meetings, events, and workshop topics cover music & audio recording, live sound, film sound, live broadcast audio, digital audio networking, etc., and promote the benefits of diversity, inclusion, and equity in media production and audio disciplines.
