The Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness (OIRE) is committed to supporting data‑informed decision‑making across the university by providing accurate, timely, and actionable information. All faculty, staff, and administrators are encouraged to submit inquiries using one of the forms provided below to facilitate their data needs, analytical requests, and assessment support.

Where can I submit a request if I would like to receive data for my project or research?

My department is located on the Bloomfield campus. Can I still submit a data request?

How long is the turnaround for a data request?

Please allow 7-10 business days for your request to be completed. There will be certain periods in the academic cycle when delivery dates are impacted due to an increase in workload. In addition, some requests are complex and may require a more involved use of resources. You will be contacted directly in these instances to discuss an extended delivery date or a need for additional information.

What if I need my request in a rush?

All requests are handled in the order that they are received. If you have a circumstance that will require immediate attention, contact us at OIRE@montclair.edu or 973-655-5384.                                                                              

Does the OIRE handle off-campus requests?

My request requires data from the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC). Will that impact my delivery date?
Possibly. The NSC is a third-party resource that the OIRE uses primarily to retrieve application records of transfer students throughout their academic career in higher education. As such, there is no definitive way to predict turnaround or quality of the information returned. In many instances, the NSC data will require some analysis but OIRE is dedicated to delivering accurate, complete data in a timely manner and will work diligently to provide your request within a reasonable timeframe.


What if my data or research request is used for any internal website, internal presentation, print publications, or the university portal?

Your data request will need additional approvals before your request is furnished depending on the data being requested

When do I need to involve the Institutional Review Board (IRB)?

If your research request involves human participants and requires the participants to disclose personal identifying information, you must first obtain approval from the Institutional Review Board (IRB). Contact the Montclair State University IRB for additional information:

After you obtain approval from the IRB, you must include the approval with your data/research request. Without the IRB approval form, we will be unable to provide the requested data.
