Administrative Department

Office of the Registrar

The Office of the Registrar supports your academic journey by maintaining your records, managing registration and helping you stay on track toward graduation.

Manage Your Academic Life

Many Registrar services are available through NEST, your student portal including links to register for class, viewing grades and academic standing, applying for graduation and more.

You can also manage and update personal or academic related information, which you should check every semester!

The Registrar's Office also works to ensure the Academic Calendar and various important dates are accessible. Please ensure you stay on track by checking both regularly as dates may change throughout the semester.

Academic Engagement

This is required each semester!

You’ll complete an Academic Engagement activity in each course to confirm your attendance and support financial aid processing. Complete this in Canvas during the first week of each class.

Before You Register...

We will remind you when it's almost time to register for the next semester by sending you emails to your Montclair email address.

  1. Plan Your Classes: Review the schedule of classes!
  2. Meet With Your Advisor: Some students are required to check in with their academic advisor prior to registering. They can help you make decisions and offer suggestions.
  3. Resolve Any Holds: Some holds will prevent you from registering, don't let this get in the way! Common holds include unpaid balances and missing documents.
  4. Know Your Time: Registration is based on how many credits you earned.

When Do I Register?

Your registration time is based on the number of credits you have earned and does not include credits you’re currently enrolled in.

  • Graduate and priority students register first. If you are eligible for priority registration, you will receive communication in advance with your registration details.
  • Seniors, juniors, sophomores and freshmen follow in order.
  • Transfer and non-degree students register later.
  • Incoming freshmen do not register themselves for classes, instead your advisor will take care of this after you fill out your new student questionnaire!

Helpful Registration Tips

There is a lot that goes into preparing for and registering for class each semester, and we understand you may have questions along the way.

Fall 2026 Registration Times

Registration is open for fall 2026 and returning students are welcome to add or change their schedule through NEST

  • Incoming Students: You will receive your schedule this summer and do not need to register! If you have questions contact your academic advisor.
  • Non-Degree Students: Register beginning Monday, August 17, 2026 at 9 a.m.
  • Senior Citizen Waiver: Register beginning Friday, August 28, 2026 at 9 a.m.

Important: Your registration time is your first opportunity to register, not your only opportunity.

Spring 2027 Registration Times Coming Soon!

Classes may fill by the time you can register, but if that's the case you can join the waitlist!

  • After joining the waitlist, you will be notified if a seat in the class opens.
  • You will have a 48 hours to register for the open seat after being notified, otherwise it will be offered to the next person on the waitlist.
  • There is no guarantee that the seat will open, so you should plan accordingly and find another class that fits in your schedule as a backup plan.

Learn How to Add Yourself to a Waitlist

Undergraduate students who receive an F, D-, D, or D+ in a course are permitted to repeat the course one time. Courses in which a student received a grade of C- or better cannot be repeated.

There are some circumstances where you can get approval from the Dean of each College or School who has the discretion to approve exemptions to the policy.

If approved, you will receive a permit to which you may register for the class.

Learn How To Submit a Request to Repeat a Course

Some classes require permits before you are allowed to register. Departments may issue permits for closed or restricted courses and if granted, you may then go ahead and register for the course in NEST.

Need Help?

If you have questions or need support, Red Hawk Central can assist!
