Join the Center for Heritage and Archaeological Studies (CHAS) and the Archaeological Institute of America–Northern New Jersey Society for a lecture by Sarah Mady, PhD., examining the relationships between political power, historical memory, and cultural heritage. The lecture explores how nationalism and looting can affect the interpretation and preservation of the past, including the less visible losses that occur when heritage is disconnected from the communities and memories that give it meaning. The event invites participants to consider the broader responsibilities of archaeology and heritage research in protecting cultural connections as well as physical remains.
