Healthy Communities Corps, AmeriCorps
As an AmeriCorps member with the Healthy Communities Corps, you have the opportunity to serve as a mentor, tutor, community advocate or environmental steward. You might help address issues such as food security, mental health, tutoring, and community outreach.
AmeriCorps, the federal agency for national service and volunteerism, runs the Healthy Communities Corps program. Members are placed in local organizations to serve public health, education, and social service needs. HCC members can complete their service terms through a wide range of on campus and off campus partner organizations that uphold the AmeriCorps mission. For their service, they receive a living allowance stipend and an education award that is dependent on the amount of time they dedicate to the program.
To participate, you must
- Be a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Complete on average 20-25 hours of service per week
Terms of Service and Allowance:

900 Hours | $10,800 | $3,697.50 |
1200 Hours | $14,400 | $5,176.50 |
Member receive their living allowance as a bi-weekly pay check. The Education award is granted only upon successful completion of a member's term. Members can use the award to repay qualified federal student loans or pay for current or future educational expenses such as tuition and fees or supplies.The living allowance and education award are taxed as income.
The HCC program works on a rolling admission basis and accepts applications all year round.
Members in the program participate in networking events, trainings, conferences and monthly meetings that provide comprehensive and valuable opportunities in many different fields.
