Budget Preparation
Budget Guidelines and Templates
OSP's Budget Guidelines provide guidance on developing proposal budgets, including salaries, stipends, fringe benefits, and indirect costs. Use the budget and budget justification templates below to prepare sponsor-compliant proposal budgets.
Budget Templates with University Cost Sharing/Matching
Some sponsors require the University to contribute a portion of the project's costs through cost sharing or matching funds. Because these commitments become binding institutional obligations when an award is made, they must be approved before a proposal is submitted and tracked throughout the life of the project.
Before including University cost sharing or matching in a proposal:
- Review the University's cost-sharing guidance in the Sponsored Programs Handbook.
- Obtain approval from the authorized departmental fiscal agent.
In no circumstances will previously committed match on an active award be permitted without prior approval from the sponsor. Cost-share/match on a previously submitted proposal should not be committed on a separate proposal until the outcome of the original proposal is determined.
