Membership

The IRB Chair leads the review of research involving human participants to help ensure it is conducted ethically and follows applicable regulations. The Chair also oversees IRB meetings and provides guidance to researchers and IRB members.

IRB Chair: Sarah Kelly

The Institutional Official (IO) provides oversight of the Human Research Protection Program and supports the IRB in protecting the rights and welfare of research participants. The IO ensures the institution has the resources, policies, and commitment needed to conduct ethical and compliant human research.

IO: Stefanie Brachfeld

IRB members review research proposals to help ensure the rights and welfare of research participants are protected. They discuss studies during IRB meetings, vote on research approvals, and help ensure research is conducted ethically and in compliance with applicable regulations.

The IRB Office staff support the administration of the Human Research Protection Program by conducting pre-reviews of research submissions, coordinating the IRB review process, and communicating IRB determinations to researchers. They also provide education and guidance to the campus community on human research policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
