Academic Advisement and Success

Throughout your nursing program, you'll have access to advisors, faculty mentors and student success resources to help you achieve your academic and professional goals.

Academic Advising

All pre-licensure nursing students are assigned a Faculty Advisor and an Academic Advisor.

  • A Faculty Advisor provides academic and career mentorship, shares expertise in nursing, connects you with research opportunities, offers graduate school guidance and helps you with long-term career planning. You are expected to contact your Faculty Advisor at the beginning and end of each semester to discuss your academic progress and plan for upcoming semesters.
  • An Academic Advisor provides curriculum and course planning guidance, helps you access campus support services, assists with academic improvement plans and provides resources to address personal challenges that may affect your academic success. You can meet with your Academic Advisor throughout the semester.

As a post-licensure nursing student, you'll receive personalized academic and career advising from the Post-licensure Program Director.

Scheduling Your Advising Session

There are several ways to connect with your Faculty Advisor or Academic Advisor.

  • Make an appointment through Navigate.
  • For general advising questions, pre-licensure nursing students can reach out directly to Mrs. Kamenetskiy, while post-licensure nursing students can reach out directly to Dr. Janice Smolowitz.
  • Limited walk-in advising may be available depending on advisor availability and existing commitments.

Student Success

All nursing students have access to a faculty member dedicated to student success. This faculty member works with students and advisors to foster a sense of belonging, build confidence, develop effective learning strategies and promote academic success.

You may be referred by a faculty member or advisor, or you can schedule an appointment on your own. Student Success also provides individual and cohort outreach throughout the semester to address common academic and professional success topics.

Student Success Resource Hub

All nursing students have access to the Canvas course, 'School of Nursing Student Success Resource Hub'. The Resource Hub brings together resources to support your success throughout the nursing program. Whether you're building foundational skills or preparing for the NCLEX-RN, you'll find tools to help you succeed academically, clinically and professionally.

Resources that are available include:

  • Self-study modules covering topics such as APA formatting and HIPAA compliance
  • Course resources and information about HESI testing
  • Discussion boards focused on academic skills, emotional intelligence and dosage calculations
  • NCLEX-RN preparation resources

If you cannot access the Student Success Resource Hub, contact Dr. Jean Conlon-Yoo for assistance.
