General Accounting

Mission Statement


The mission of General Accounting is to maintain and ensure the accuracy and integrity of the University’s financial records through account reconciliations and other analyses and to provide timely and reliable financial and accounting services.

General Accounting ensures that all transactions are made in accordance with the University’s policies, U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) established by the Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB). General Accounting also ensures all transactions abide by Federal & NJ rulings/laws/directive/pronouncements as well as any/all other applicable governing bodies and regulatory agencies or subdivisions.

General Accounting maintains knowledgeable staff who understand various accounting processes from beginning to end and act as a resource to the University Community in providing the highest quality and most responsive service with care and concern. The office seeks to utilize technology in the most effective manner in the operation of accounting functions.

General Accounting partners with Student Accounts, Payroll, Benefits, Budgeting, and Student Financial Aid to provide the highest quality of service to its internal customers as well as to its external vendors and third-parties.

Major responsibilities:


  • Establish University’s Accounting Calendar and oversee monthly, quarterly, and yearly posting and closing activities

  • Develop and perform reconciliation processes and procedures that ensure effective integration of financial transactions

  • Ensure timely and accurate data is processed and posted to the General Ledger

  • Answering specific questions on the General Ledger

  • Providing guidance and advice on accounting and reporting issues, financial structures, accounting and finance policies

  • Reconcile integrated payroll data in the General Ledger

  • Reconcile integrated student accounting data in the General Ledger

  • Reconcile uploaded p-card, travel card, and postage charges in the General Ledger

  • Monitor, control, and report on capital and fixed assets

  • Maintain, monitor, and enhance the University’s system of internal control over financial transactions

  • Provide account analyses, ad-hoc reports, and other reporting as required by University management and/or the Board of Trustees
