Emergency Communication Procedures
The information below outlines the only official and approved ways the University will communicate with you in the event of a campus emergency.
Rumors can spread quickly through social media, group chats and other unofficial sources. Sharing unverified information can create unnecessary fear, confusion and misinformation and may interfere with the University’s ability to communicate accurate information. Please rely on the official University communication channels below for verified updates and avoid sharing information that has not been confirmed by the University.
- Text Messages: Text messages are the University’s primary method for sharing emergency updates and important information, such as road closures or weather alerts. Your cell phone number is automatically enrolled in our Rave Mobile Safety system. Keep your phone number up to date in NEST to ensure you will get these important alerts.
- Social Media: The University will post emergency alerts on the main Montclair State University Instagram.
Email: After a Rave text alert, we’ll usually send a follow-up email to your Montclair inbox with details. Make it a habit to check your email every day! - Website: Most alerts will also be posted as a pop-up along with a link to a news article on the Montclair State University website.
