Saddle Up, Agents! Cybersecurity Awareness Month Is Here

Join the Phish Files Agents this month as we explore the Cyber Frontier and learn how to defend the network. Each week, we will share cybersecurity tips, games, challenges, and resources covering passwords and MFA, phishing and social engineering, data security and privacy, and reporting and community defense. Agents across campus, including students, faculty, and staff, can participate in the weekly Cyber Challenge, collect four codes, and complete the final challenge for a chance to win prizes.

Phish Files presents Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2026

Attention, Phish Files Agents! Your next mission has arrived.

This Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the Phish Files are taking us to the Cyber Frontier with a month full of cybersecurity tips, challenges, games, resources, and opportunities to help defend our network.

And this mission is for everyone. Agents across campus, students, faculty, and staff, are being called into action to learn, play, and help defend our digital frontier.

Our theme this year is:

Cyber Frontier: Defend the Network

Throughout the month, Information Security will be sharing weekly Agent Briefings, activities, and resources to help you recognize threats, protect information, and make safer choices online.

Your mission: learn, participate, and help defend the network.

AGENT BRIEFING

Your weekly source for Cyber Frontier intel

Each week, check the IT newsletter for your latest Agent Briefing. We'll be covering a new cybersecurity topic each week, along with practical information and tips you can use at work, in the classroom, and in your everyday digital life.

MISSION 01:

Passwords & Multi-Factor Authentication

Strong passwords and MFA are some of your first lines of defense. Learn how to protect your accounts and make it harder for cyber outlaws to gain access.

MISSION 02:

Phishing & Social Engineering

Not every message is what it appears to be. Learn how to spot suspicious emails and messages and recognize the tactics used to trick you into clicking, sharing information, or giving up access.

MISSION 03:

Data Security & Privacy

Your data is valuable cargo. Learn how to protect sensitive information, respect privacy, and keep important data out of the wrong hands.

MISSION 04:

Reporting & Community Defense

Every Agent has a role in defending the frontier. Learn what to do when something looks suspicious and how reporting potential threats helps protect the entire campus community.

THE PHISH FILES CYBER CHALLENGE

Think you've got what it takes to defend the network?

Each week, campus screens will feature a new Cyber Frontier game and challenge. Keep an eye out as the screens change from mission to mission.

When you find the weekly challenge, scan the QR code and complete your mission.

But there's a catch...COLLECT ALL FOUR CODES.

Each week's challenge will provide you with a code. Agents who successfully complete all four weekly missions will unlock the final challenge and receive a chance to win some awesome prizes!

OFF-CAMPUS AGENT?

No problem.

You don't have to be on campus to participate. Check the IT Instagram each week for another way to join the mission.

Whether you're on campus, working remotely, teaching a class, or simply away from headquarters, you can still participate in the Phish Files Cyber Challenge.

Four missions. Four codes. One final challenge.

Agents, are you ready?

AGENT TOOLKIT

Tools to Help You Defend the Network

Every Phish Files Agent needs the right tools for the mission. This month, we're highlighting two tools that can help you protect your account and report potential threats.

Strengthen Your MFA with Duo

We're strengthening the way Agents protect their accounts.

As part of this effort, we will be phasing out Duo SMS and phone-call authentication and moving toward stronger authentication options.

This change helps strengthen account security and provides more secure ways to verify your identity.

Want to Beat the Wave?

You don't have to wait for your scheduled migration.

When your account is ready, you'll receive an email with instructions and next steps for completing your migration.

Want to get ahead of the wave? You can also contact the IT Service Desk for assistance and get started early.

Keep an eye on your inbox for your migration email, and don't hesitate to reach out if you need a hand.

Activate Your Phish Alert Button

Students, there's another tool being added to your Agent Toolkit: the Phish Alert Button (PAB).

The PAB provides a quick and easy way to report suspicious emails directly to the Information Security team.

When your account is ready, you'll receive an email with the code and instructions needed to set up your Phish Alert Button.

Want to activate your PAB sooner? Contact the IT Service Desk for assistance.

Once activated, your Phish Alert Button will be ready whenever you encounter a suspicious message.

When in doubt, report it! Your report can help us investigate potential threats and protect the entire campus community.

AGENT RESOURCES

Visit the Library

Every good Agent needs resources.

Throughout Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the Library will feature a special display with book recommendations and resources covering cybersecurity, technology, privacy, and more.

Stop by, browse the collection, and discover your next great read.

You never know when that extra bit of knowledge might come in handy on your next mission.
