Insurance & Payment Information
Learn what’s covered by the University Health Fee, when additional charges may apply and how insurance reimbursement works through the Student Health Center.
What You Need to Know
All students enrolled at Montclair State University pay a mandatory University Health Fee, which covers basic operations of the Student Health Center.
This means:
- You can access care regardless of your insurance.
- There is no co-pay for visits.
- However, some services may include additional costs.
Additional Charges
You may be charged for:
- On-site prescription medications
- Procedures
- Durable medical equipment
- On-site diagnostic testing
- Specialized care
- Payment is not required at the time of your visit, but:
- Charges are applied to your student account
- You are responsible for payment
- A hold may be placed on registration if unpaid
Payments are made through the University’s Student Accounts system.
Health Insurance
The Student Health Center does not manage or administer health insurance plans.

Using Your Insurance
You may choose to submit your charges to your personal insurance plan for reimbursement.
Important:
- You are responsible for all charges, regardless of reimbursement.
- Payment should be made first through Student Accounts.
- Reimbursement happens separately through your insurance provider.
How to Request Reimbursement
- Make sure you receive a bill after your visit.
- Visit your insurance provider’s website and submit a claim.
- Track your claim through your insurance account or customer service.
- Request copies of bills or proof of payment from the Student Health Center if needed.
