Description
New Jersey mandated the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) in September 2016 for grades 6 to 12. These standards include the often ignored engineering design standards.
If you have not been teaching the engineering standards or were unaware of them, this workshop will help you understand their purpose and how they fit into NGSS instruction.
A comprehensive review of the NGSS and an introduction to the engineering standards can strengthen your instructional practice and support New Jersey’s mandate of “All students, all standards.”

This interactive six hour workshop provides a detailed review of the principles of the NGSS, the conceptual shifts in the standards, the Three Dimensions, the Performance Expectations, and the role of phenomena.
Teachers will also receive an introduction to the engineering design standards and participate in activities that highlight the differences between science and engineering.
Participants will receive resources in the form of handouts, classroom ready activities, and websites.
Space is limited.
Eligibility
This workshop is Designed for Grade 5-12 teachers only. Administrators may not register for this workshop. This facilitator prefers teacher only groups.
