The NGSS, Modeling, and the NJSLA-Science Workshop

Did your students’ NJSLA Science scores surprise you?  

Feeling discouraged or wishing you had known the Science and Engineering Practice (SEPs) were a major emphasis on the test? 

This workshop focuses on the modeling SEP and how it appears throughout the NGSS and the NJSLA Science. There are 35 modeling SEPs embedded in the Performance Expectations (PEs) for grades 5 through 12. This interactive six hour workshop contains three parts and is designed to help teachers strengthen their understanding of modeling and apply it directly to classroom instruction.

Part 1 provides classroom ready modeling activities and time for creating or revising your own modeling lessons.

Part 2 offers an overview of the principles of the NGSS, the Three Dimensions, and the Performance Expectations.

Part 3 includes background information about the NJSLA Science, including test construction and scoring.

Participants will receive resources in the form of handouts, activities, and websites.
