Upward Bound Application and Guidelines
Eligibility
- Students between the ages of 13-18 who reside in Paterson and/or currently attend a high school in the Paterson Public School District
- Students who are potential first-generation college-bound
- Neither parent/guardian can currently possess a bachelor’s degree
- Students who meet the low-income requirements as defined by the Federal Government
- Students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents
- Students with a minimum GPA of 2.5
- Students who want to pursue higher education and show commitment to their studies
- Students who demonstrate the potential for academic success and personal growth
Personal Information
- Copy of Student’s U.S. Birth Certificate OR copy of valid U.S. Passport
- Permanent resident card (if applicable, front and back)
- Copy of pages 1 and 2 of Parent(s) federal income tax form for the most current tax year (1040 or 1040A, not W2 Form)
- Benefits letter from Social Security and/or Social Services for your most recent year (if applicable)
Information from the School
- Current school report card and a copy of your current school schedule
- Copy of Test Scores: State NJSLA, PSAT scores, and/or SAT scores
- Official school transcripts
- Essay/personal statement
- Three (3) teacher recommendation letters – English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science
- Guidance Counselor recommendation
