Upward Bound Application and Guidelines

Eligibility

Students between the ages of 13-18 who reside in Paterson and/or currently attend a high school in the Paterson Public School District
Students who are potential first-generation college-bound
- Neither parent/guardian can currently possess a bachelor’s degree
Students who meet the low-income requirements as defined by the Federal Government
Students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents
Students with a minimum GPA of 2.5
Students who want to pursue higher education and show commitment to their studies
Students who demonstrate the potential for academic success and personal growth

Copy of Student’s U.S. Birth Certificate OR copy of valid U.S. Passport
Permanent resident card (if applicable, front and back)
Copy of pages 1 and 2 of Parent(s) federal income tax form for the most current tax year (1040 or 1040A, not W2 Form)
Benefits letter from Social Security and/or Social Services for your most recent year (if applicable)

Current school report card and a copy of your current school schedule
Copy of Test Scores: State NJSLA, PSAT scores, and/or SAT scores
Official school transcripts
Essay/personal statement
Three (3) teacher recommendation letters – English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science
Guidance Counselor recommendation
