Academic Year and Summer Program
Academic Year
The Upward Bound Project at Montclair State University serves 52 high school students annually.
During the academic year, participants attend the program on Saturdays. The Saturday academic component runs from September through May. Saturday sessions run from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. During these sessions, students receive the following services:
- academic reinforcement in:
- mathematics (e.g., algebra I & II, geometry, pre-calculus, and calculus)
- the sciences (e.g., biology, chemistry, physics)
- English / Language Arts
- one-on-one tutoring
- financial literacy
- peer leadership training
- team building activities
- personal development
- cultural field trips
- college campus visits
- counseling
- mentoring
Summer Program
During the six-week summer program, held Monday through Friday from June through August at Montclair State University, students engage in a rigorous academic experience while gaining valuable exposure to college life. The program is designed to strengthen students' academic skills through coursework in English Language Arts, mathematics, science, computer literacy, and SAT preparation. In addition, participants take part in all of the academic support services, enrichment opportunities, and activities offered during the regular academic year, as described above, providing a comprehensive and immersive learning experience.
