State Holidays with Classes Scheduled by the University

The University is open for scheduled classes on Presidents’ Day, Columbus Day, Election Day, and Veterans Day, and University offices are open to provide essential services. These are work days for all managerial employees. As noted below, employees represented by the AFT are eligible to work on these days to accrue compensatory time in compliance with the respective Holiday Day agreement.

CWA and IFPTE employees are eligible to work the Presidents’ Day holiday and earn compensatory time based on the operational needs of the University. However, please note, the compensatory time earned for working Presidents’ Day by CWA and IFPTE employees may not be applied to the Winter Break.

CWA and AFT Bargaining Unit Holiday Agreements – Opportunities to Earn Compensatory Time

The University has entered into local agreements with the CWA and the AFT to enable their members to work on the State Holidays with Classes Scheduled by the University in order to accrue compensatory time. This accrued compensatory time can be applied to the day after Thanksgiving or the four non-holiday workdays (Winter Closing). For further details, please review the applicable local agreement below.

AFT

Effective 2024, AFT members will accrue 1.25 hours of compensatory time for each hour worked on a State Holiday with Classes Scheduled by the University. Please note: since Sprague Library is closed on Martin Luther King Day, this date is no longer eligible for AFT Library personnel to accrue compensatory time.
