Valley Road Sign Policy

1. Purpose and Scope:

   The Montclair State University digital sign located at the corner of Valley Road and Normal Avenue is a promotional and informational tool designed to inform the University community and the public about the institution’s events and activities, and to promote its programs and achievements. This policy provides guidelines for usage and access to the sign.

2. Responsibility:

   University Communications and Marketing is responsible for the digital sign and will process requests and manage all messages. The division reserves the right to determine which messages are displayed on the sign and to edit messages for length and content.

3. Messages:

   Messages displayed on the digital sign should be of general interest to the University community and the public. If the message is for an event, the event must be sponsored by the University or an approved partner and open to the public. The sign is not to be used for personal messages of any kind, or for promoting events and programs that are only open to students, faculty or staff.

4. Procedure:

   Requests to have messages that adhere to the guidelines above displayed on the sign may be made to University Communications and Marketing as follows:

   • The University Digital Sign Message Request Form must be used.
   • The request must be submitted at least 15 working days prior to the event start date.
   • All Valley Road sign messages must be created as graphic images, including messages that contain only text. The sign does not display typed text. 
   • Keep the message brief and easy for passing motorists to read: no more than three or four lines with 20 characters or fewer per line.
