At Montclair, we believe public service extends beyond our campus boundaries and into the communities in which we live and work. 

Every fall, our University community is invited to participate in the New Jersey Employees Charitable Campaign. This voluntary workplace giving initiative allows public employees to support a wide array of vital health, environmental, educational and human service organizations. 

There is no obligation to give, but if you choose to explore philanthropy, the campaign provides a structured, effortless pathway to back the causes that matter most to you.

What is the New Jersey Employees Charitable Campaign?

The NJECC is the single statutorily authorized fundraising framework that allows state, county, municipal and public university employees to support registered charitable organizations directly through their workplace. Created by the New Jersey State Legislature in 1985, this annual campaign consolidates hundreds of vetted nonprofits into one centralized network, ensuring a secure and regulated giving environment for public servants.

When does the annual charity campaign take place?

The official giving window opens at the beginning of the fall and runs consecutively from September through December. During this designated enrollment period, employees have the opportunity to review participating nonprofits, submit their personal pledge allocations and establish their contribution preferences for the upcoming calendar year.

Non-Profit Eligibility and Charity Options

Which charitable organizations can I support through this initiative?

Employees can choose to direct their giving to more than 650 approved local, state, national and international nonprofit organizations. To ensure total transparency and fiscal responsibility, every participating group must meet strict legal requirements, operate with minimal overhead costs, maintain IRS 501(c)(3) status and register annually with the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs.

Giving Methods and Payroll Allocation

What are the available methods for making a charitable donation?

You can choose to contribute to your selected charities through a one-time payment or distribute your philanthropy gradually across the entire calendar year:

• The Payroll Deduction Method: This option allows you to divide your total pledge into small, manageable contributions that are automatically deducted from your biweekly paychecks starting with the first pay cycle in January.
• The Direct Payment Method: This option allows you to execute a one-time charitable gift using a personal check, credit card or secure digital payment options through the online campaign portal.

Can I change, pause or stop my payroll deductions during the year?

You retain full ownership and control over your personal philanthropy, meaning you can adjust, pause or completely cancel your recurring paycheck deductions at any point by contacting Human Resources. Your giving preferences are entirely confidential.
