Federal Legislative Process

The United States federal government is divided into three branches, with the Constitution establishing a separation of powers to create a system of checks and balances.

1. The Legislative Branch, made up of Congress (the Senate and House of Representatives), creates laws. 
2. The Executive Branch, led by the President, enforces and carries out laws. 
3. The Judicial Branch, led by the Supreme Court and other federal courts, interprets laws and determines whether they align with the Constitution.
