About the School
The School of Social Sciences aims to become a regionally recognized leader in interdisciplinary education, producing graduates equipped to address complex societal challenges through critical thinking, ethical reasoning, data-informed analysis, and community engagement. Bringing together the fields of anthropology, history, justice studies, political science and law, and sociology—and working collaboratively across the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the wider university—the school fosters intellectual inquiry and experiential learning while promoting rigorous scholarship, inclusive excellence, and public engagement. The school prepares students to understand and address pressing social, economic, political, and environmental issues through innovative teaching, applied research, and partnerships with public, private, and nonprofit sectors.

Our Departments
Political Science, Law, History, and Anthropology
The Department brings together disciplines dedicated to understanding people, power, culture and society across time and around the world. Through interdisciplinary teaching, research and public engagement, the department prepares students to critically examine human experience, political systems, legal institutions and historical change while developing the analytical, research and communication skills essential for engaged citizenship and meaningful careers.
Sociology, Criminology and Justice Studies
The Department examines the forces that shape society, human behavior, social institutions, crime, law and systems of justice. Drawing on interdisciplinary perspectives, the department explores how social relationships, policies and institutions influence individual lives and communities while addressing some of society’s most pressing challenges, including inequality, human rights, public safety, social change and justice.
